If 50KB alone doesn't get you there
50KB is a tight budget for a full-resolution photo. A modern phone photo is typically 3“5 megapixels straight out of the camera, and squeezing that many pixels into 50KB forces the compressor to throw away a lot of detail — that's what produces the smudgy, blocky look people associate with "over-compressed" photos.
The fix is to resize before you compress. Most exam portals don't actually want a huge photo shrunk down — they want a photo that's already close to the pixel dimensions they display, usually somewhere around 200×230px.
